Amanda Brugel

(February 27th, 2010 - Toronto ON) Pointe Claire is a quiet community located on the part of Montreal that is known as the West Island. It is a part of the island that has been called "the West Island." West Island has a lot of communities. Many who've never known about it may mistake it for a separate island facing west. Amanda Brugel is said to have been born on West Island, although this is not true. Brugel was raised in Courtice close to Oshawa in Ontario. Her early ambition was to become a dancer, however a rapid growth rate meant that she literally outgrew the dancers she was with. In an article in the Toronto Star she admitted In heels, I'm 6 feet one inch. The moment I outgrew my male counterpart then I slowed down. Dancers who have been in the past often switch to acting, and in the instance of Brugel,, it was a suggestion by her drama teacher. She was recommended by a teacher getting a part in the school's annual production. She tried out and eventually got the leading role for the role in Anne of Green Gables. She was given a Fine Arts Talent Scholarship to attend York University's Theatre Program, where she graduated from the program in 2000, earning a bachelor's degree in Fine Arts. For the last twenty years, Brugel's work been seen on both the small and large screen. The most notable was her fame when she was offered the role as Rita on the award-winning TV series The Handmaid's Tale. Brugel was the sole Canadian actor during Season 1 of the series and only seen occasionally.
